I have been emailing my host family for the past couple weeks.

I haven’t even met them yet and I already have the feeling that they are going to be an amazing family. I have two brothers Florian who is 20 years old and Christian that is 16 years old. Christian is going to Argentina so I will only be living with him for a month, and Florian is going to school in Vienna. My parents are Marlies who is a nurse and Klaus who is a doctor. I have been talking to them and they seem so nice! I also have a host cat schnurli!

I have never had any brothers and I’m so looking forward to meeting them and being a part of their family...I'm now going to be the new addition to the Demmelbauer family.

I’m Emily Michelle Albanese. I’m an aspiring photographer. This is my life. My life as an exchange student. Traveling the world. Experiencing new thing. Finding myself and finding friendships... I haven’t left my country yet. I already can say I have 52 new best friends from 20 different countries.

 I never pictured my life to be as amazing as it is today. I get to have the experience of a life time and fulfil my dream. People think I’m going just to have a year off, a vacation, or have an excuse not to go to school. No. It’s much more than that. I get to represent my country, my city, my district, my family, my friends. In another foreign country. That country is Austria. 

Definition of an exchange student: a secondary-school or college student who studies for a period, usually one year, at a foreign institution as part of a reciprocal program between two institutions or countries (dictionary.com)

...From what I learned from being an exchange student so far it’s much more than that. Next year I’m going to explore the definition of being an exchange student and find out what it really mean to be one.
